Thousands of lost items left in Sydney Airport now they’re being auctioned off online — and it’s all for a good cause.
Over 2,500 items including electronics, jewelry and accessories left at the airport can be picked up for a fraction of the regular price.
It’s all part of an annual online fundraising auction for the Harding Miller Educational Foundation, which awards scholarships to high school girls with high academic potential who are disadvantaged.
Over the past decade, the auctions have raised $1.6 million for various charities.
Sydney Airport Corporate Affairs General Manager Josh Clements said: “It’s clear the public love getting a deal to support a worthy cause.
“There’s something for everyone with an abundance of great technology, clothing, accessories and beauty products, as well as a host of unique items such as a massage table, electric scooter, leaf blower and a quintessential Aussie favourite, the jaffle machine (sandwich press).” ” he said.
“It’s great to see these unclaimed items find new homes while supporting a charity that offers comprehensive scholarships to help level the playing field for disadvantaged high school girls.”
In 2023, Sydney Airport returned more than 5,000 lost items with passengers, but what remains unclaimed is donated to local charities or repurposed through the Lost and Found Auction.
“Starting bids start at just $10, meaning buyers have a chance to grab a great deal while supporting an impactful charity,” said Theodore Bruce Auctions Director Cassie Prischl.
The subsequent auctions are currently open for bids:
- Tech & Gaming – Saturday 4th May to Saturday 11th May, closing at 10am
- Sunglasses, Bags, Scarves & Accessories – Saturday 4th May to Saturday 11th May, closing 2pm
- Jewelery and Watches – Saturday 4th May to Sunday 12th May, closing 10am
- Clothing – Saturday May to Sunday May 12, closing 2pm
- Beauty, Alcohol, Home – Saturday 4th May to Sunday 12th May, closing 4pm
Goods can be sent for a fee or picked up by appointment.
