People who were on the flight or at the airport at the time should monitor for symptoms, Victoria Health said.

”If you have been in any of the exposure locations, you should monitor for symptoms for 18 days. Symptoms usually start to appear after a week,” Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Dr Claire Luker said.

“If any symptoms develop, you should seek medical attention immediately.

“Please call ahead before arriving at a medical facility so that you can be examined in isolation from other patients.

Measles is a highly infectious viral disease and can spread quickly to unvaccinated people, Victoria Health said.

Young children and immunocompromised adults are at the greatest risk of serious illness if they contract it.

The virus usually starts with symptoms similar to a common cold, followed by a fever and a rash.

Recent cases of measles have been found in people who were either unvaccinated or returned from overseas, Victoria Health said.

The virus is rare in Australia due to the widespread level of vaccination.

”Anyone planning to travel abroad should make sure they have received the appropriate vaccinations, including the MMR vaccine if they do not have a history of two previous MMR vaccinations,” Luker said.
